ODISHA Odisha is one of the 29 States of India located in Western India, it is surrounded by the state of west Bengal to north east, jharkhand to the North, chhattisgarh to the West and north-west and andhra Pradesh to the South. It is the 9th largest state by area, and the 11th largest by the population. The state also has the third largest population of Schedule Tribes in india. The area of odisha is about 1,55,707 square kilometers. Odisha is connected with the world largest bay i.e. Bay of bangal. Bhubaneswar is the capital of odisha. and the capital of odisha bhubaneswar is the 1st smart City in India. It hold the rank 1. There are 30 districts in the state. The High Court is situated in cuttack, odisha. Odia is the official and most widely spoken language in odisha.It hold the 25th rank in the Human Development Index rank. The literacy rate is 73.45%. History

The modern state of odisha was established on 1st April 1937, as a province in British India, and consistent predominantly of odisha speaking language. The name of the state was Orissa. In late 2011 the state name was officially changed from Orissa to odisha.

The early History of odisha can be traced back to the mention found in ancient texts like the Mahabharata, Maha Govinda sutta and some Puranas. In 261 BCE (Before Common Era) Ashoka of the mauryan dynasty conquered the region in the bloody  kalinga war, which was fought at the bank of River Daya near present day bhubaneswar. The resulting bloodshed and suffering of the war deeply affected Ashoka. He turned into pacifist and converted to Buddhism. He sent peace emissaries to various neighboring nations. Thus an indirect consequence, the event caused the  spread of the Buddhism in Asia.

In 1958 Common Era , the region was conquered by the armies of the sultanate of bengal led by the , conoclest general Kalapahad. The following rulers of the region we're more tributary Lord's than actual Kings. After 1751, the maratha gained control of the region was passed into the British empire. The British divided the region into parts of other provinces.In 1936 , the province of odisha was firmed on the basis of population of odia speaking people.


Culture of odisha

Odisha is largely rural and traditional values that are still retained from an integral aspect of the Odisha culture. Odisha's stategic geographical location has engendered the assimilation of the culture of the Aryans and the dravidians .the culture of odisha can very well described as an Indo-cultural synthesis
Odisha art and craft constitutes a Major portion of the culture of Odisha. The art of odisha underwent myriad changes and is a product of a number of assimilation and ambition, odisha known for it's sand arts, patta chitra, palm leaf painting, jhoti, chita and muruja. The odishian artists are unsurpassed in there skill.

Odisha boast of a glorious tradition of dance music. The figurines of dancer's and musicians gracing the wall of the quaint temples in odisha speak volumes about the rich musical heritage of the state .odissi music is the classical art that has imbiden the elements common to  the hindustani and karnatik music. In odissi dance,chhau dance, mahari dance, the jatra, pala and daskarhia comprise of an inextricable part of the culture of odisha.

4. Lingaraj Temple Bhubaneswar

The lingaraj Temple is situated in bhubaneswar city and is the largest one situated in the city. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as the name suggests ,the temple was build in the 7th century by the king jajati jeshari. Lingaraj Temple is located in the old part of bhubaneswar town and can be easily reach by using local transport

9.Nandankanan Zoological Park

Zoological Park is a 437  Hectore 200 and botanical gardens in berhampur odisha, India. Established in 1960, it was opened to the public in 1979 and became the first zoo in India to join world association of zoos aquarium in 2004

It is a museum in bhubaneswar, odisha,India. In it's original form it was established in 1932 and later moved to the current building in 1960

The world largest dam Hirakud dam

HIRAKUD DAM THE HIRAKUD DAM IS THE LARGEST DAM OF THE WORLD The hirakud dam is built across the mahanadi river.about 15 kilometers from the sambalpur District in the state odisha in India. Behind the dam extends a lake, called hirakud reservoir,55 kilometer long THE HISTORY BEHIND THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIRAKUD DAM The dam was started to build in the year 1948. Pandit jawaharlal nehru laid the first batch of concrete on 12th april 1948 In 1952,mazumdar committee was appointed by the government to oversee the soundness and technical feasibility of the project.The committee has envisaged costs of rs92.80 crore for the project and that the construction of the main dam would be complete by June 1955. It also said that by 1954-55 a total of 1,347,000 acres (545,000 ha) would be irrigated and that 48 GW of electric power would be generated.
